From Chaos to Hope: Tiffany’s Story
Tiffany’s journey to City of Refuge was marked by years of hardship. After enduring a traumatic childhood, including sexual abuse and addiction, her life spiraled downwards.
“Life was chaotic,” Tiffany recalls. “I didn’t know what love was. I started using drugs at 14, and it got more chaotic from there.”
By the time she reached adulthood, she had dropped out of high school and struggled with drug use. The turning point came when Tiffany found herself homeless with two young daughters. Desperate for help, they found their way to City of Refuge. “I didn’t have any hope when I first arrived,” Tiffany said. “But after a while, my hope started to grow, especially when the GED classes started.”
“I didn’t have any hope when I first arrived…But after a while, my hope started to grow.”
With City of Refuge’s wraparound services and supportive community, Tiffany began to turn her life around. She attended recovery meetings (she’s now going on three years of sobriety), got her driver’s license, picked up a job, and got a housing voucher so she could get her own place.
But her crowning achievement was earning her GED. “It was the best thing,” she says. “I wanted to pursue something else in my life. I wanted to build a career so that I could provide for my family.”
Today, Tiffany is on the path to becoming a medical assistant, with the ultimate goal of earning a master’s degree in nursing.
Her daughters, Sophie and Jasmine, are thriving at City Kids Preschool and City School Atlanta.
Thanks to City of Refuge, Tiffany and her girls now have their own apartment, directly across the street from campus. “To be able to get my own place, after being homeless for seven years…I love City of Refuge.”
To the donors and supporters who make City of Refuge’s programs possible, Tiffany is filled with gratitude.
“Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
